Frequently asked questions
Why do cameras shoot in 3:2?
35mm film frames were 36×24mm, a 3:2 ratio. Digital full-frame and APS-C sensors kept the same geometry, so 3:2 remains the default photo format on DSLRs and mirrorless cameras.
Is 3:2 better than 16:9 for laptops?
For work, yes. A 3:2 screen shows more vertical content — lines of text, spreadsheets, code — at the same diagonal size. 16:9 remains better for video because most video is 16:9.
What print size is 3:2?
4×6 inch (10×15cm) prints are exactly 3:2, which is why photos from cameras fit standard print paper without cropping.
